Robert Ardrey (1908 – 1980) playwright turned anthropologist and originator of the “killer ape” theory of human evolution mentions in his wonderful book “The Territorial Imperative” that one indicator of a species nearing extinction is the “soiling of its own nest”. Short-sighted, self aggrandizing, unconstitutional regulatory oversight by certain members of Congress is not only soiling its own nest – it’s utterly eviscerating itself – and us, literally burying our nest with our own butchered offal. The 535 (435+100) pound gorilla on the regulatory table is aping human behavior in ways it simply does not comprehend and cannot control. A hail storm of unintended consequences stemming from The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) as originally passed in 1977 and as updated in 1989, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1999 and 2005 (CRA, Pub.L. 95-128, title VIII, 91 Stat. 1147, 12 U.S.C. § 2901) has eaten our economy and has yet to spit it out. We’re told interminably by progressive legislators and the current executive branch that “it’s that doggone Bush’s fault”. “We inherited this mess”. Well, yes the 111th, 1st Session of Congress did inherit a one trillion dollar mess…not from Bush, but from the 110th Congress and I don’t know how many before them. You may recall that the House of Representatives originates spending bills, not the White House.
Immediately after laying blame the 111th moved to increase the mess to nearly four trillion dollars with the passing of bills that YOU freely admit YOU didn’t even read in spite of the new transparency. So – NO – Congress; YOU caused this mess and have been causing it for three decades; and not through lack of regulation as you pedantically claim, but by forcing bad regulation down our throats under cover of protecting us from those greedy lenders. Those same lenders that YOU forced to write bad business and whose resultant greed YOU are now protecting and paying off; and WHO are in return paying YOU off – so both of YOU comfortably keep quiet about WHO caused what; all with OUR money. The corporate officers of ENRON and shyster Bernie Madoff went to jail for a far smaller violation of their fiduciary responsibility to share holders. Why on earth is the U.S. Attorney General not holding certain members of Congress legally accountable for this act of financial treachery and corruption against the American tax payer? What is going on here? We have just witnessed the largest financial scandal in U.S. and world history and are now rewarding the perps with the honor of fixing and profiting from the fix with more stolen tax dollars. Are YOU kidding ME? Say, what? Say social security? Say Medicare? Say Medicaid?
This vacuous though well intended (perhaps) unconstitutional 1977 Act of Congress and its periodic improvements (sic), by both parties incidentally, basically direct regulated commercial banks and savings associations to write mortgages in lending markets referred to by Congress as “affordable housing”, or as we know it today “sub-prime”. Sub-prime is a handy euphemism for “lend to people who don’t have a snowball’s chance in Hades of ever paying it back, but gosh don’t we all look good with our caring suits on”. In all of economic history banks have never been delusional enough to do this. Banks understand how to profit – we’re told that all the time. Welcome Jimmy Carter and 1976 – a mere 200-years since the founding declaration and look what our nifty progressive Congress is off in the corner doing. The King Delusional door to “social justice” and “corrupt crony regulation” is now open wide, deep in our pockets and ready to birth our economic collapse. Well it’s plenty birthed now ain’t it?
While handy-man Jimmy is collecting Nobel prizes and assuaging his un-admitted guilt, the offices of Congressional Members are littered with mountains of graft and the United States has been steadily taking on water through the progressive hole drilled in her otherwise sound hull. Well guess what? The pumps aren’t working and $800 billion of crony socialism hasn’t welded the hole shut. In fact, its growing exponentially (that means fast) and we’re listing to port more quickly than ever. Congress says the fix is more of the same only now we call it “change you can believe in”.
I am so sick and tired of hearing Democrats blame Republicans and Republicans blame Democrats I could puke. The wooded rear path to the back door of both parties is practically worn down to dirt by lobbyists and attorneys making back room deals with elected representatives. Deals made with our money that we ain’t even made yet and I won’t even mention “the kids”. Nobody can get to the tax payer trough fast enough. YOU could get an ankle broke racing for the back doors and YOU have 535 of ‘em to pick from. It makes a person dizzy trying to keep track of YOU – and YOU is Congress – that means House and Senate.
At this point any heavily monied crook from any country in the world has more confident access to our legislators and their votes than any voter does. We ought to just drive by the Capital Building and throw our wallets up on the lawn. Why should special interests have to go all the way inside to take our money? Hell, just do a drive by. What the working people of the United States need is to get all 535 of YOU meddling fools out of our back pockets. Enough is enough. I’m down to broke; I’m still feeding YOU; I’m still feeding YOUR friends and I’m getting tired of it. I’m plumb wore out with a Congress that thinks it works for the “government” – not for me. YOU took an oath for gosh sakes! Us folks out here never took an oath to make YOU and YOUR friends rich. Make your own money.
Walter E. Williams, a national treasure whom we unfortunately don’t listen to has said, “If our country is to survive and prosper, we must summon the courage to condemn and reject the liberal agenda, and we had better do it soon.”
Thomas Sowell, another national treasure we don’t listen to said, “Most of the people in the upper income brackets are not rich and do not have wealth sheltered offshore. They are typically working people who have finally reached their peak earning years after many years of far more modest incomes – and now see much of what they have worked for siphoned off by politicians, to the accompaniment of lofty rhetoric”. Just who is Congress going to steal from when there’s no one left but thieves?
Those working people Dr. Sowell mentions are our grandparents, our parents and now us and our kids. I believe it’s time we listened. Thank you “tea party” goers. You are fighting the revolutionary war of our time. Please don’t quit.
To answer the original question; no, I don’t think we are going extinct, but our freedom is; our pro-choice choices are; our children’s future is; and our free market capitalist goose that lays the golden eggs of prosperity and hope surely is…and when it has our banana republic is going to have one heck of a time un-extincting itself…unless we stand up and stop the nonsense and the thieves….stop the nonsense now.
It’s all about the money, stupid…and of course the power.
